"Giovane Scuola"

... or "young school" refers to a group of Italian composers who succeeded Verdi and flourished in the late 19th and early 20th century. In this photo we can see three members of these group in their "not so young school anymore" days.

Left to right: Umberto Giordano ("Andrea Chénier"), Mons. Lorenzo Perosi (the only "giovane" who never wrote an opera, brother of Carlo Cardinal Perosi), and Pietro Mascagni (of "Cavalleria rusticana"-fame).

Strange: This elegant photo brings back memories of times that I never witnessed.
[Note to self: Get head examined]
